Who are we?
Rinkel is a telecommunications scale-up founded in 2014 in the Netherlands. We offer a SaaS telephony platform that revolutionises the way freelancers and small businesses communicate. That includes building our very own Webphone in 2021, launching our integrations in early 2022, and receiving a €1 million investment to further expand our platform, and speed up our international ambitions. And there's so much more to us!
Our founders are techies, which means we don't consider software engineering an afterthought, a necessary evil or an expense. It's in our DNA. We're passionate about transforming a conservative telecom market, where most applications come from the Age of Dinosaurs. We do this by designing and building intuitive software by applying User Centered Design principles. From networking to mobile apps: everything is done in-house, which allows for rapid prototyping ("fail often, fail fast") and enables us to stay ahead of the competition.
Next to that, we have recently opened our first international office in Barcelona! Besides its hot tech scene which is a perfect match for us, it's also the first country where we will roll out our product! You will join a small team already working in the Barcelona office (which has sea view, and is located right next to the beach!). To ensure team synergy and to integrate new hires into our current team, employees will have the option to travel between Barcelona and Rotterdam on a regular basis.

About the role
As a Systems Engineer you will maintain mission critical components that thousands of entrepreneurs across Europe use every day. You will work on improving our existing infrastructure to make sure we're ready to scale. This includes advising which components to upgrade/replace first, improving our pre-emptive monitoring and our geographical redundancy. The Software Engineers in your team will be super happy once you start at Rinkel, because you love to automate tedious Engineering tasks such as spinning up a Development / Staging environment and you can't wait to further improve our Continuous Delivery workflows.
As a Systems Engineer, you will:
- continuously improve and scale our platforms infrastructure
- apply modern concepts such as virtualisation, containerisation and infrastructure as code
- monitor and resolve system related issues
- automate tedious tasks for the entire Engineering team
Who are you?
For this role, we need you to have:
- a related bachelor's degree
- a minimum of 4 years of Linux system administration experience
- experience working with infrastructure as code tools (i.e. Ansible / Puppet / Chef)
- experience writing shell scripts
- experience configuring and managing popular webservers / databases / caching tools etc.
- a good level of English
